On the Use of Blowup to Study Regularizations of Singularities of Piecewise Smooth Dynamical Systems in ℝ3

چکیده
In this paper we use the blowup method of Dumortier and Roussarie, in the formulation due to Krupa and Szmolyan, to study the regularization of singularities of piecewise smooth dynamical systems in R. Using the regularization method of Sotomayor and Teixeira, we first demonstrate the power of our approach by considering the case of a fold line. We quickly extend a main result of Reves and Seara in a simple manner. Then, for the two-fold singularity, we show that the regularized system only fully retains the features of the singular canards in the piecewise smooth system in the cases when the sliding region does not include a full sector of singular canards. In particular, we show that every locally unique primary singular canard persists the regularizing perturbation. For the case of a sector of primary singular canards, we show that the regularized system contains a canard, provided a certain nonresonance condition holds. Finally, we provide numerical evidence for the existence of secondary canards near resonance.

Regularizations of Two-Fold Bifurcations in Planar Piecewise Smooth Systems Using Blowup
We use blowup to study the regularization of codimension one two-fold singularities in planar piecewise smooth (PWS) dynamical systems. We focus on singular canards, pseudo-equlibria and limit cycles that can occur in the PWS system. Using the regularization of Sotomayor and Teixeira [30], we show rigorously how singular canards can persist and how the bifurcation of pseudo-equilibria is relate...
متن کاملNormal forms of Hopf Singularities: Focus Values Along with some Applications in Physics
This paper aims to introduce the original ideas of normal form theory and bifurcation analysis and control of small amplitude limit cycles in a non-technical terms so that it would be comprehensible to wide ranges of Persian speaking engineers and physicists. The history of normal form goes back to more than one hundreds ago, that is to the original ideas coming from Henry Poincare. This tool p...
متن کاملFold singularities of nonsmooth and slow-fast dynamical systems – equivalence by the hidden dynamics approach
The two-fold singularity has played a significant role in our understanding of uniqueness and stability in piecewise smooth dynamical systems. When a vector field is discontinuous at some hypersurface, it can become tangent to that surface from one side or the other, and tangency from both sides creates a two-fold singularity. The flow this creates bears a superficial resemblance to so-called f...

متن کاملNonsmooth Bifurcations of Mean Field Systems of Two-Dimensional Integrate and Fire Neurons
Mean-field systems have been recently derived that adequately predict the behaviors of large networks of coupled integrate-and-fire neurons [14]. The mean-field system for a network of neurons with spike frequency adaptation is typically a pair of differential equations for the mean adaptation and mean synaptic gating variable of the network. These differential equations are non-smooth, and in ...
